The Black Creek Community Health Centre and the Women’s College Hospital have teamed up to organize a FREE upcoming workshop in Toronto called “Trauma and Addictions: A Dual Challenge for Women and their children”.
In recent years, studies have demonstrated that trauma-related experiences and substance abuse are intricately intertwined; the interaction between trauma-related challenges and addiction is complex. In this conference, the presenters will seek to build a bridge between the differing treatments for addictions and trauma-based mental illness.
The conference will present a practical guide to assist child protection, mental health, health care, and social service professionals in providing trauma-informed care. The presenters will provide essential information in order to understand the impacts of trauma. Conference participants will be able to identify common pitfalls and learn how to avoid re- traumatizing survivors during interactions.
