SafeGuards Training For Children and Adult Services
WEBSITE: Visit the website
Children and youth are rights holders and all of us have a role to play in contributing the knowledge young people need to have about their rights. This training will focus on children’s rights and will be anchored within an advocacy framework.
The purpose of this training is to lay the foundation skills and knowledge for a discourse to speak about children and young people as rights holders. It will examine the history of inequity that gave birth to both the human rights and the children’s rights movements. The training will also challenge status quo notions regarding working with young people and instead propose the development of a rights based practice.
This training will have a Canadian focus towards children’s rights within an advocacy framework and the role of the Ontario Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth in amplifying the voice of children and youth as they make rights claims. The starting premise of this training is that children and youth are active participants in their own lives and have a role to play in creating the change they want to see in the services with which they are involved or using.
We will explore children’s rights, advocacy and the resources available to young people in Ontario’s systems of care.
Participants will be encouraged to reflect actively on how they can apply what they learnt in this course to their work with children and youth.
